Rockhills Christmas Collective // Nadia Chavez
As Christmas comes nearer, I have been preparing my heart and trying to remind myself that I need to stop and take a breath, focus on peace, and focus on Jesus, our Savior. Not to remind you, although we all need reminders sometimes, we know that Jesus is the reason for the
season.
One evening in prayer, the Lord brought a sweet memory to my heart. As a young girl, about 7 or 8 I remember being in church when someone asked me, what was my favorite story in the Bible. I remember my response; I told them, “It is all the red words in my Bible.”
At that age, I recall my Bible with a picture of Jesus and children on the cover. I took that Bible to church with me every week, and even after some time, I had to have my Bible taped up since it was nearly falling apart. I think about the words that Jesus spoke in the Bible and how he is so relatable in his words and stories. I understood his message even as a child, and I fell in love with his words, his words in red. In His loving words, He is sharing His love with us. He is calling us to follow Him, and how we must show others the love He is freely given to us. At Christmas we celebrate His coming, so let us rejoice together for His Words in Red.
There are a few songs about Jesus’ words in Red. One is “Red Letters,” by Crowder. The lyrics state: “Thank You, God, for red letters; When the ground began to shake; The grace of God started falling, And I became a free man that day; The prison walls started falling, And I am a free man today.” Matthew West has another beautiful song, “Me on Your Mind;” where he
sings: “I’ve read the words in red; How You leave the 99; To find the one missing; Feels like that was written; With me on Your mind.”
Jesus’ words in red are for us, and I am thankful for those words in red. Let’s celebrate Jesus and his words in red.
